Janamashtami holds a spiritual significance in Hindu calendars as people fast through the day and break the fast by midnight to complete the celebration of this auspicious occasion.

On this special day we all prepare many types of sweets at home for prasad or Navaidayam, Dhaniya Panjiri is one of them. It is a main sweet of janamashtmi pooja, which is prepared by coriander powder.
This year Janamashtmi will be celebrated on 15th August 2017, According to hindu calendar this is the 5244th birthday celebration of lord Krishna. So lets celebrate Kanha’s birthday with this special recipe.

Ingredients

3 table spoon coriander powder

1/2 cup ripe coconut(shredded)

1/2 cup powder sugar

1/2 cup clarified butter(pure ghee)

1/2 cup makhane (fox nut)

15 almond (sliced)

15 cashew (sliced)

15 pistachios (sliced)

1 table spoon chironji

1/4 tea spoon carom seeds

1 table spoon melon seeds

1 table spoon chironji

2 tulsi leaves

Instructions

1. To prepare dhaniya panjiri, first of all, take a thick bottom pan and heat 2 table spoon ghee in it.

2. Now saute the shredded coconut on low heat about 2 to 3 minutes then take them out and keep aside.

3. In the same pan add 1 table spoon ghee on medium flame and roast the fox nuts/makhane until they become crunchy, then remove from the pan and keep aside.

4. In the same pan add 1 tea spoon ghee and likewise prepare all nuts and keep aside.

5. Now add the remaining ghee and roast dhaniya powder until it becomes light brown in color.

6. Now add carom seeds in coriander mixture.

7. Now mix all roasted nuts, powder sugar, roasted dhaniya powder together and garnish with tulsi leaves.

Now janmashtami Navaidaiyam/ Dhaniya panjiri is ready to bhog…..जय श्री कृष्णा!
